Thermion was commissioned to improve the energy efficiency of all production facilities with steam systems at one of Sweden's largest dairy groups. With energy-intensive processes in everything from pasteurisation to CIP systems and refrigeration technology, there were great opportunities to reduce heat loss through professional review of existing insulation of pipes and equipment.
The collaboration began with Thermion conducting a comprehensive survey of all facilities to identify the largest heat losses. This was followed by the selection of insulation solutions adapted to each environment and process, followed by efficient installation in close co-operation with the respective operating teams.
- "It is always very rewarding to be able to combine energy efficiency with clear environmental benefits. In this project, we expect the customer to save up to 89% of energy annually - in each plant on the parts that have been improved," says Peter Ericsson, Sales and Calculation Manager at Thermion.
The project shows how systematic work on pipe insulation can yield significant results for both the climate and the customer's energy bill.
Thermion's energy efficiency measures saved the customer 128 tonnes of CO₂ and 2,890 MWh. This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of almost 300 homes, and as much CO2 as a forest the size of 15 football pitches binds in a year.
That's how much difference smart insulation makes.
